Free flight bird show

Watch as birds such as the Wedge-tailed eagle, the barn owl and a range of cockatoos soar through the air.

Wildlife Photo Sessions

A range of animals are available for visitors to have their photo taken with. Available animals may include koalas, pythons and crocodiles.

Cairns Tropical Zoo is located on 6ha (15 acres of land).

History

The zoo opened in 1980.

Star Animals

Sarge

Sarge is the largest saltwater crocodile displayed at Cairns Tropical Zoo. He measures 5.1m (16.7ft) and weighs 300kg (661lb).

Main Exhibits

Wallaby Walk
Enter the home of Parma and agile wallaby’s along with red-legged pademelons.

Walk through aviary
Mingle with a number of birds such as eclectus parrots, metallic starlings, Torres Strait pigeons and Satin bowerbirds. Each day you can see the lorikeets getting a feed.

The Reptile House ”
One of the most comprehensive reptile collections in the country is housed here. Encounter local species such as Australia’s most venomous snake the inland taipan along with friendlier lizards like the blue tongue or frill-necked lizard.  There are also exotic species such as Burmese pythons, corns snakes and endangered Fijian Banded Iguanas.
